MPs In Morality Shocker
At Glitterditch Towers we tend to favour vigorous armchair ranting, or perhaps inebriated pub philosophy, over a cold day spent marching in protest at the latest government plan to ban fun in the UK.
However, just because we're too lazy (or too pissed) to have a go at Gordon and his cronies, doesn't mean we don't care. Ho no. Piqueing our interest today is the free vote on the abortion laws. Namely, should the limit of termination be changed from 24 to 20 weeks? Or possibly even less?
There's lively debate online and MPs will wrestle with their tattered consciences to decide the law on this contentious subject.
There's myriad opinion here. In the blue corner are the pro-lifers, back by the Tories, who believe the limit should be reduced. In the red corner is Big Gordon and the pro-choicers, who state that medical evidence hasn't changed since the law was last decided and the 24 week limit should remain. And they've got the hefty support of Jo Brand too.
Floundering in the sludge of political No Man's Land are the religious crazies, banging on about judgement day and the Devil. The fire and brimstone is going to rain down, full pelt, apparently. Good job we brought our brollies.
This is a free vote, which mean that MPs are able to act according to their consciences, rather than having their vote dictated by the party line. Should be interesting to watch some of Whitehall's finest frantically searching for those misplaced morals.
If you have strong feelings on this subject, don't follow our lazy lead. Stand up and be counted at the emergency protest to be held outside Parliament this evening at 5.30pm.
A thoroughly noble pursuit for a Tuesday.
