Glitterditch gets arty
Ladies, Take Your Turner
It's that time of year again: the lid has been lifted on the entrants for the 2008 Turner Prize and as ever, it's a veritable hotbed of controversy and bonkers artsy stuff.
Whether you dig it, sneer at it, or couldn't give a flying fuck, when there's a female dummy sat on the loo and another one pushing a pram in nowt but her 60 denier opaques (pictured), it's sure to raise a wry smile from even the most withering of armchair critics.
Whatever your take on the visuals, you gotta hand it to the ladies: three out of the four shortlisted artists are women (Goshka Macuga, Cathy Wilkes and Runa Islam). This is no mean feat, considering only three members of the fairer sex have ever gotten their mitts on the accolade since it began in 1984.
As for lone male entrant Mark Leckey, he's a self-confessed dandy and ex-raver, with an obsession with Felix The Cat. He might be out-numbered, but with credentials like that, he is most certainly not out-manoeuvred.
Winner is announced Dec 1, check it out for yourself @ Tate Britain, SW1.
