The bastard mix of Parkinson and Skins that went wrong
Professional motor mouth and sometime singer, Lily Allen, has managed to blag herself a second series of her BBC Three chat show.
After some pretty abysmal ratings - sinking to as low as 170,000 some weeks - Miss Allen and her, ahem, friends will be back on screen in the latter part of this year. Rejoice, rejoice, rejoice.
Despite conceptually being a interesting spin on the chat show format - some great bands, fairly interesting guests and a little audience interaction - Lily was not the new generation Parkinson that producers had envisaged. Often looking incredibly uncomfortable with the audience, the autocue and sometimes the guests (Lauren Laverne certainly gave her a run for her money last week) Allen looked like she was screaming on the inside during links and often looked like a cross between Thumper in headlights and a possessed and very agitated Linda Blair.
Allen's show was supposed to the be the flagship in BBC Three's re-launch to bring in the 'yoof' market and should have been all sassy and young and carefree - like if the Skins cast had their own chat show, but instead it fell a long way short of this. After receiveing a fair amount of stick for the series already, another poor offering could knock a serious dent in her future career.
Whether or not figures will pick up during the next run is too early to tell, but perhaps Lily should stick to creating annoyingly catchy pop songs. She is very good at that.
