Only on TV

Something to look foward to?

magnum_pi_tom_selleck.jpgIf you were growing up in the late eighties, chances are you watched a fair amount of bad television and just when you thought you could lay all those nightmarish memories of shoulder pads, spandex leotards and leg warmers to rest, something comes along and ruins all those years of therapy.

Two 'classic' shows getting the Hollywood reimagining treatment this year are Magnum P.I. and Beverly Hills 90210. Yep, auditions are currently being held for both shows and the question on everyone's lips is who is going to step into the shoes of Thomas Magnum, Brenda and Dylan?

With UK actors currently doing considerably well in US dramas, we at Glitterditch have been getting all nostalgic and pondering over what current celebs could star in classic TV remakes.

With Tom Selleck far too old for those short shorts now, perhaps our very own Russell Brand could fill his flip flops. Brand certainly has the legs for hot pants and has that wind-swept beach hair to give the character an air of authenticity. How about a new version of Worzel Gummidge? Played by Shane McGowen, of course, we'll take him to California and draft in some buxom, perma-tanned model as Aunt Sally. Too radical? Why not consider Pete Doherty as Lovejoy? By day he's a quick talking antiques dealer, by night a musician, making the occasional dodgy deal and playing the odd gig to keep him in class A's.

Well, if the promise of re-hashed 80's television programmes doesn't excite, sleep safe in the knowledge that New Kids On The Block will be making a come back this year. Sweet dreams.
