Literature loses its Lily
So when we first heard that Lily Allen was judging the Orange Broadband prize for literature, we weren't overly supportive. We were maybe a little snarky. We just weren't sure that we wanted to read books on the recommendation of her manager, okay? But is it our fault do you think, that she's dropped out?
Well, press reports suggest not. Which is good for the Glitter conscience. She's had a bad few months, we'd not like to add to it.
The move might work well for the credibility of the award though. The apointment of celebrity talent Allen to the judging pannel did not go down well in all lit circles. But we liked the attitude of Ceri Radford on the Telegraph: aren't these prizes all about the hype and flashbulbs and mikes? It's a pretty small jump.
Anyway, we hope Lily's not giving up Orange completely: gotta keep taking that Vitamin C.
