Holy treasure hunt, Batman!

bat (2).jpgTreasure hunts might not sound cool. In fact, for a certain generation they re-awaken buried memories of Anneka Rice's arse wobbling about in a bright jumpsuit, so what would it take to make a treasure hunt break away from its nerdy reputation and earn some respect? Only a superhero could conjure such a transformation, we hear you cry (Glitterditch has very good hearing.) Fair point - how's about a certain Batman-themed one? Holy Caped Crusader, Batman!

This summer's blockbuster 'The Dark Knight', the follow-up to 2005's fantastic 'Batman Begins', has already been exciting fans through an online viral campaign full of suspense and mystery. Much of this innovative promotional work was from the perspective of the film's chief villain, The Joker, however since the tragic death of Heath Ledger, things had gone rather quiet on that front. That was until news posted today on film site Empire Online of a Batman treasure hunt, taking in various locales in the States, Paris, Sao Paulo, Hong Kong and London.

The Joker's site The Clown Travel Agency posted clues and addresses and invited fans to go searching their backyards for superhero riches. It didn't take fans too long to pull sickies and go trekking across town trying to get their hands on the coveted prizes.

The first one, a bowling ball in a bowling bag, was found in the basement of the Tavistock Hotel, aka the Bloomsbury Bowl by one lucky fan. The treasure consisted of rare Joker memorabilia and to show off his good fortune, the winner sent pictures of his precious loot to Empire Online. The website later confirmed that all swag concealed in London has now been found.

Not to worry Batman fans - get on the Euro Star and try your luck on the continent.
