Directionless rants

Kelly Clarkson disappoints in London gig

kelly (2).jpgFame can be a fickle mistress. One minute your career is surpassing your dreams, the next you're opening school fetes in Weston-super-Mare. Just look at American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson - once the best argument in favour of TV singing competitions, the singer performed to crappy reviews at the Hammersmith Apollo on Wednesday night.

This slump in popularity and success is commonly attributed to her insistence on writing her own material for her third album My December, a decision that back-fired when the hits dried up and her record label got mad. Reviewing the performance, the London Paper critic condemned these more recent pop efforts as "blurring into a noisy mush of anonymity" - ouch! But such criticisms sparked the debate: what is the worst London gig you've ever been to?

Obviously no-one likes to shell out money for tickets, get all excited and dressed up for a flop of a gig. These things aren't cheap and often require some organisation, travel and produce a constant ringing in the ears for the next few days. But what are the most frustrating and annoying aspects of a musical night out?

Those screechy, sweaty teenagers that flail their arms in your face? The over-priced food ("how much for a burger?" you cry in shock) or the nap-inducing wait for the star to take to the stage? Maybe such things are all part and parcel of live music and anything else just won't do. But for those of you that have endured one crappy gig too many, now is the chance to share your trauma with Glitterditch.

Leave a comment and don't hold back - simply see it as your civic duty to help warn others of what horrors are out there. And if you veer off into a crazed, bitter rant - all the better!

That was just an idiot reviewers opinion, he obviously didn't like the new cd, and went into the concert, without an open mind. Did you read all the comments to his review, from the people that attended the concert? Well, they had a completly different perception of the show than he did, not one of them were disappointed in her show, or her new material.

Some years ago my sister & I made the mistake of going to see G 'n' R or (as it is more commonly Axl Rose and some blokes who weren't on Appetite for Destruction). It took an hour and twenty minutes between the support act finishing and Rose finally stepping on to the stage as the crowd got more and more angry (I was actually slighty saddened we didn't get to participate in one of the infamous G 'n' R riots). Popular rumour has it the reason for this ridiculous wait is because the tubby ginger refused to perform until he'd had a roast dinner. Admittedly asking Axl Rose to respect his fans is a bit like asking Billy Corgan to part his hair.
