The Stripping Debate: Part Two

pole.jpg

Glitterbitch is never one to shy away from the important questions in life. A while ago, we asked Londoners if they thought burlesque dancing was just fancy stripping. On Saturday we randomly ended up in a strip bar. We can honestly say that stripping is very very different.

What we were doing there? Well we'd just finished filming a music video for Mitch. The Mitch boys were feeling like rock stars (bless) and wanted to go out and get into trouble. It just happened that trouble with a group of guys quite often involves naked women.

And blimey, they were naked. Now, that may be stating the obvious, but with burlesque there's a little bit of warning. And it's done slowly. Strippers don't mess about. One minute they were wearing the smallest scrap of underwear we'd ever seen, then you blink and they were gyrating around in front of us completely starkers.

There's nothing left to the imagination. It's just all there for you to see. There's no charm. It's not theatrical and that's what we love about burlesque. It was fun, but we perhaps that's more novelty than anything else. Although we would love to be able to wrap our legs around a pole and hang upside down (who wouldn't?).

We'll go back to see burlesque shows again. Strip clubs? Unlikely. At least until the next music video.
