Glittery A-Z
National Portrait Gallery
London's best bits are often the ones that have been getting it right for years. The places that feel new and exciting every time you go. So to celebrate these we bring you the Glittery A-Z. Today we bring you 'N'.
The National Portrait Gallery is frankly one of the most wonderful buildings in London. It's often ignored in favour of the National Gallery next door. So we thought we'd have a bit of a poke around and seek out the best bits for you.
- The Vanity Fair show is still on and we urge you to go and see it. For the images of Jean Harlow alone because she's fabulous and old school glamour is still cool. Just think of all those Mario Testino images you love. Now you've got a chance to see the beautiful people up close.
- Brilliant Women has just started. Its all about influential women in the 18th century. Blimey. Expect to learn some stuff about feminism.
- To lighten things up a bit, try the Jazz in London exhibition. Who doesn't love a bit of jazz? The fact that for some reason, people playing the saxophone also make for damn good portraits is a bonus too. This show is best coupled with a trip to Ronnie Scott's up the road.
See, all of this is much more interesting than those stuffy old paintings next door. (We are working on our art appreciation skills we promise.)
The National Portrait Gallery is at St. Martin's Place. Nearest station is Charing Cross.
