While today's news that Britain's teenagers prefer Heat magazine over all other reading material has made us feel quite dispirited, there are heartening signs right on our doorsteps that literary Britain ain't dead yet. Today marks the the launch of the 2008 edition of Booktrust's dogged and admirable endeavour to keep the printed page alive for Londoners. ![]()
But in order to properly embrace the spirit of this event, we're moved to enquire: what should the Glitterditcherati (that's you, darlinks) be reading?
Some of our favourite London-centric titles include Martin Amis' London Fields, Alan Hollinghurst's The Line of Beauty, Jill Dawson's Fred and Edie, and of course George Orwell's Down and Out in Paris and London, which is so brilliant that it rather makes us want to become tramps.
