Directionless rants

First they came for the hookers...

We may be a little late in spotting this, but we're still as outraged as we would have been a week ago. It turns out that a day celebrating female solidarity and the kind of sisterly compassion that is so trampled upon in crap-fests like 'Sex and the City' was a more regulated affair than some women would have hoped for. The organisers of the International Women's Day march decided that the English Collective of Prostitutes had no business being there, much less the right to a platform.

Why? Who knows? Perhaps prostitutes do not display the right kind of economic solidarity that other women do. Perhaps the fact that the majority of prostitutes are not taxpayers means that they shouldn't be given a voice. Maybe giving handjobs for cash doesn't display the kind of female power that, say, writing a book that whinges about raunch culture does. Or perhaps it's just that people think shagging guys for money is a little bit icky.

Whatever the reasons, we are not amused, and we recommend that you show your solidarity for these wonderful, generous ladies who do what most of us would run screaming from. Give them your business, tip them well, then write 'em a good review.
