Cocktail Hour
Cocktail Hour in Soho
Have we managed to find the perfect cocktail yet? Er, no. But we have come pretty close. We were promised the best mojitos ever at the Soho Hotel. And actually, our tip-off wasn't too far from the truth.
Soho Hotel is tucked away just off Wardour Street. The name of the bar 'Refuel' annoys us. It suddenly sounds like a Student Union bar. Lucky that it's pretty swish inside.
But it does swish in a 'Soho' way. So it's cool as well. It picks up all those high-end media types who don't have to hide their shock at the bar tab. Annoyingly, it does look like you're standing in a restaurant, not a bar, but that's something that always irritates us about hotel bars. We wouldn't want to eat here for that reason. And we also hate the fact that its so dark in here. Someone should teach bars that just turning the lights off doesn't add atmosphere.
But we do want to drink here again. The mojitos were really excellent. Just enough mint, not too much sugar. And a powerful kick of rum that came as a bit of a shock, but was just right. (Like the Goldilocks of cocktails.)
We'll be back again. But maybe we'll come during the day, when we can actually see where we're going.
Soho Hotel is at 4 Richmond Mews in Soho. It's by the same people who created the gorgeous Charlotte Street Hotel. Eat some carrots before you go. The image is courtesy of the Soho Hotel website. We imagine it was taken during the day.
