Thai Room

Last night, Glitterbitch found herself in what was described to her as 'nowheresville'. Which wasn't too far from the truth. We were at the back end of Bethnal Green (nowhere near the fabulous Beach Blanket Babylon unfortunately) and we were hungry.

So we found ourselves in the Thai Room. And honestly, we weren't expecting much from a restaurant in the middle of nowhere.

It's really pretty in Thai Room. Much prettier than expected. Romantic, even. Which was a little bit weird. But were we welcomed by some really lovely waitresses who treated us well all evening. They're proud of their restaurant and that shows.

It was one of those nights when we weren't meant to go out. We were meant to be somewhere else entirely. But we figured what the hell as we ordered a bottle of wine. Just for the sake of it. Seeing as we weren't going to get anything done that evening we might at well relax.

Luckily, the wine was good. But the food was better. We did like the random free canape we were given too. We ordered a simple Thai green curry (much better with chicken than lamb). The food was great. Simple, well cooked and lots of it. It's a great place and could have charged much more for the food than it was. We're also happy with any Thai place that will dish up good jasmine rice.

We weren't rushed to finish our meal which happens a lot in town. We stayed there much longer than we were meant to just gossiping and polishing off wine. It was exactly how a spontaneous Tuesday should be.

We've got a thing about Thai food at the moment. Thai Room was better than The King's Arms and Thai Square. It was even as good as Busaba. The atmosphere was much better than all of them. It's not the kind of place you'd bring a huge group of friends, it's way too coupley for that. But if you find yourself in the area with a friend, you'll be really surprised at how much you enjoy it here. Thai Room is why we love eating out in London. We're always surprised by what we find.

Thai Room is at G2-G7 Bow Wharf, 221 Grove Road, Bow, London, E3 5SN. Just walk down the Roman Road from Bethnal Green tube until you get to the canal. It's on the left.
