Ladies what lunch.

Ahhhh, lazy Sunday brunches. Exactly the reason you should tear yourself from your duvet. Catching up with friends to gossip about the weekend is what Sundays are for. And exactly the reason you shouldn't go to Balans.

We should have known things we going to be bad when they glared at us for asking for a table of six. Because they didn't want to move two tables together maybe? Charming. Things just got worse from then on.

The tea was nice. There. We said something positive. After half an hour, our food hadn't arrived. But friends who turned up fifteen mintutes later got served faster than us! When we ordered eggs Benedict too! We were not happy. We were told that it was because we were sat in a different department. A different department? If we'd have moved five foot, we'd have got served quicker.

Ten minutes later we were told they didn't have what we'd ordered. They didn't apologise. Not once. By the time our food arrived, our friends had finished eating. Glitterbitch's eggs Benedict was cold. We didn't have the energy to complain. We'd have been there for another hour and we were too hungry and grumpy. It took us fifteen minutes to get a glass of water. But by that time, we'd asked for the bill.

We didn't pay service. They had the nerve to question us, but didn't ask why or apologise for being useless imbeciles. We don't expect to get food quickly when it's busy on a Sunday, but we don't like being treated like idiots and being served rubbish. As for different departments, one friend wondered if they had a complaints department. Maybe they should get one.

Balans is on Old Compton Street. So is Patisserie Valerie and several other cafes where you might get served and have an enjoyable meal.

What also got me was the fact that we didnt ask for the bill once. We asked about 3 times! Even then we had to get up wave our hands around because no-one was looking after us - they really didn't want us to pay!

Oh and they missed it where one of our party turned up late, asked for a menu..and didnt get one. Bad, bad, bad service.

I'm still waiting for my menu!!!

Oh no! You got no food at all! I wouldn't worry... it was all cold...

A perfect description of the rubbishness Sian, well done. My favourite part was having to harass a table of Northerners for some HP Sauce - I think they thought I was trying to divert their attention so a gang of pickpockets could descend on them!

The worst thing is if they had apologised for being so useless, I think we'd have understood. It was busy, weekend after pay day and nearing lunch.

Not even being acknowledged in our annoyance was disgusting. I'll never set foot in there again. I'll usually give place another try. Not this time.
