Glittery A-Z

King's Arms, Waterloo

London's best bits are often the ones that have been getting it right for years. The places that feel new and exciting every time you go. So to celebrate these we bring you the Glittery A-Z. Today we bring you 'K'.

There are some pubs in London with great history. The King's Arms on Roupell street is one of those pubs. Luckily for us, it also happens to do darn good Thai food and serve a pretty good beer too.

Roupell Street is gorgeous. It looks perfectly Dickensian as it was one of the few streets in the area not to be bombed in the war. You could pick up the street and plonk it on a postcard. The Dr. Who series is filmed there a fair bit too, though we've never seen the lovely David Tennant around which is a bit of a shame.

The King's Arms is a tiny little haven that you might not think twice about going into. Sure, it's an old man's pub. But if you sneak past the bar, you'll find yourself in a gorgeous back room with huge tables perfect for a big group of people. It's a great place to meet up before you go into town.

The Thai food is amazing. The menu is huge. It's about £7 for a meal and it's all fresh ingredients. But we warn you now, when the menu says spicy, pay attention. Even the green curry was a little too spicy for us to eat despite it being yummy.

The pub is a strange mix. Young people dropping in after work in the week, and an older bunch at the weekend. It's never 'just a pub'. There's something about it that interests us. Although we wish they had a better lager on tap. But when the food is that good, and there's the possibility that David Tennant might pop in for a swift half, we're happy.

The King's Arms is at 25 Roupell Street just off Waterloo Road.

Wow - Glitterbitch in the King's Arms? I never thought I would see the day that glamour meets CAMRA!

(I quite like the pub, by the way...)
