Glitterbitch meets: Phenol

Tell us more about Phenol and what you've been up to.

We've been really busy in the last year. We're in production with Martin Rushent. He's worked with Buzzcocks and Human League so we're in good hands!

We've also got some new members in the band. Sean, our new guitarist can be seen occasionally jumping around on stage with Hot Chip. Edie, the girl behind the backing vocals, has played with Ozzy Osbourne himself! It's a pretty cool line up right now and we've got some really infectious tracks which we're getting ready to release.

When can we next see you play? Why should we come and see you?

We have an intimate gig on March 20th in Chalk Farm, at the Fiddler’s Elbow, I’ll also be doing a DJ set at The Fly on New Oxford St on 21st. Come and see us play before you can’t get close to the front…

How would you describe your sound? (We are aware this question makes us sound like an annoying music journalist - Ed.)

That’s tough to answer; our sound seems to be evolving really fast. 'Dance-oriented indie-tronica, with a dark side' sounds a bit pretentious, but it's pretty close to the mark. Then again we can be pure pop too.

Where would you most like to play in London ? What's your coolest bar/club/ venue in london?

Coolest? I'm not sure I'm in a position to answer that as you can find me most nights in my studio in the corner of my bedroom! But I like fairly anonymous places – hotel bars are great, like airports and train stations I like the fact that they're full of transient people.

Do you dunk biscuits in your tea?

No.

You've got two hours in the early evening in London , where would you go, what would you do?

Go to the Curzon Cinema and watch a great movie then hang out in a hotel bar – I will need more than 2 hours though!
