Glitterbitch Meets: Hot Breath
Last week, we told you about the fabulous sounding night Apocalympics. Sadly, we were already double booked and couldn't make it. But we needn't have worried! We had a chat with those imaginative people at Hot Breath and the night went so well, they'll be back to do it all again in a couple of months.
We're so happy about this, we had a chat with Mr Hot Breath himself (or Mike as he's better known) to find out a little bit more about them.
Introduce yourselves! Tell us who you are! Don't be shy...
Hot Breath is essentially me and my wife and anyone else we can drag along to turn our crazy ideas into fun, interactive nights out. Hot Breath Productions and our nights at the Bethnal Green Working Men's Club expanded from doing themed nights at our weekly themed karaoke night at the Legion in Shoreditch every Tuesday.
What do you do? Why should we go to a Hot Breath event?
We once recreated the original '86 Live Aid concert with karaoke and raised £26.50 for charity! We then decided to go focus on doing more full shows not necessarily based around karaoke. We are interested in doing themed one-off events where all of the entertainment from start to finish is specifically tailored around one central idea.
All of our nights are all very interactive. We go out of our way to get the audience involved as much as we can. This is what makes our night so much different from the average night out.
Best night out in London? Person you'd least like to see there?
Besides one of ours, any nights put on by Bum Bum Train. Totally creative and shambolic and also very interactive.
We'd least like to see at our nights or any nights in general is someone who is too busy trying to be cool to let loose and have a good time. Too many people are too afraid of looking stupid or venturing outside of their comfort zones. That's why we like to get people involved because looking like a fool in front of strangers is totally liberating. It's just all about losing yourself in a theme not giving a shit.
Best venue in London?
Of course we're partial to the Working Men's Club because it's so random. There's a diverse range of things that go on there and it's got such character and that is so hard to find these days.
Do you dunk biscuits in your tea?
Dunking biscuits? You bet. The best bit is all the sludgy crumb bit at the end.
Favourite London restaurant?
The Tiroler Hut in Westbourne Grove is pretty special. It's an Austrian place that's done up like a chalet and the owner plays organ, sax, clarinet and cow bells. That cow bell show is truly magical. If you can get past the food (which is pretty awful) it just about the best night out anywhere.
What other plans have you got for Hot Breath?
Future plans for Hot Breath include probably a few festivals this summer, Eurovision, and of course our weekly karaoke slot on Tuesdays. Plus we are going to be doing a monthly Sunday karaoke session down south at the Amersham Arms starting March 16th. We're also hoping to bring the Apolcalympics back in April.
Well this time, Glitterbitch and her entourage are very much hoping to be there.
You can find the Legion at 348 Old Street. Bethnal Green Working Men's Club is on Pollard Row. We think you should go and see Hot Breath very soon.
