It's not big and it's not clever

Charing Cross is Empty

charing cross.jpg

We tried to find somewhere lovely for lunch on Friday. Somewhere pleasant where we could get a beer and eat some good food. Why is this so hard in Charing Cross? It's empty. Without going into Covent Garden or braving Leicester Square we found ourselves for the first time at a loss about where to drink now The Savoy has closed its doors.

Now, yes. Gordon's Wine Bar is obviously just down the road. But on Friday lunchtime it's impossible to get a table. But it's so fabulous that it's always forgiven for being busy.

We tried the Tappit Hen which is usually lovely. But it does have a habit of sometimes being completely empty. It's not fun being the only people in a bar. Even a nice one. You feel like the bar staff are listening to your every word. And they probably are otherwise they'd fall asleep.

After leaving a shocking chain pub near Embankment because it was so hot we couldn't breathe, the only other option we could think of was The Coal Hole. Which as a pub, we don't find too shabby. But the food is awful. It was all frozen, reheated rubbish. We're not impressed.

We're not asking a lot. We just wanted something tasty to eat without having to go too far into town. If anyone knows of somewhere we can get some decent food in Charing Cross then do let us know in the comments. Otherwise we might just avoid the place altogether.
