Glittersnitch Reports

Scarlett & Nat: No tit for tat

The Other Boleyn Girl: A period drama about the beautiful and ambitious Boleyn sisters (Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman) who compete maliciously for the affections of King Henry VIII (Eric Bana)

Production of The Other Boleyn Girl: A tense drama about two beautiful and ambitious Hollywood actresses (Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman) who compete maliciously for star billing and critical acclaim, but deny any hostility in real life

Amidst reports of cat fights off screen Glittersnitch prowled down the red carpet of the London premiere last night to see if there was any truth to the rivalry rumours. And what did we sniff out? Well not a lot actually... As much as we would love to report back on vicious spats and after-party tantrums it seems our leading ladies are far too professional for anything other than a PR driven charm offensive. "It was such a rare opportunity to work with an actress my age who I admire so much."

Despite playing the scheming Anne Boleyn in the political bodice ripper, Portman, speaking at the royal premiere no less, disappointed when asked to cite a preference between Harry & Will. In a display of diplomacy that would have served her on-screen character well, she said "Which of the princes would I prefer to be romanced by?... They both seem taken already, so I really couldn't say."

In an unexpected cast twist, Portman stars as the beguiling and seductive Anne Boleyn, while the more obviously sexy Johansson dresses down for an impressive turn as the plainer younger sister in a film that manages to simplify the tangled web of 16th Century court intrigues without losing any of the glamour of its Hollywood cast.

On the red carpet, however, it is Johansson who shines, working the crowd like a prowling pussy cat who leaves the more classically beautiful Portman trailing in her shadow. We couldn’t help but admire how tough they breed 'em out in Hollywood, as both actresses braved the cold in flowing ball gowns and zero body fat — putting an overcoat and scarf clad Glitternsitch fully to shame.

Also attending the premiere were leading man Eric Bana, Prince Charles and Camilla (who's apparently a big fan of the Philippa Gregory novel it’s based on), and pop star princess Lily Allen, whose brother Alfie features in the film.

Beautiful film, beautiful cast and beautiful premiere, Glittersnitch has emerged rather unsullied from this particular party. It’s a good job The Brit Awards are on tonight as we were starting to feel a little bit too clean.
