Is Rebato's really that good?
We've mentioned Rebato's a couple of times this year already. But is the tapas really that good? It's got some things going against it for a start. Getting people to even go south of the river can be tough. Trying to convince people that you can have a great night out in Stockwell isn't easy. It's not the most glam of locations. Rebato's is the one (if only) reason you should go.
Meeting friends here was fun. They weren't sure if they'd got the right place (or even if it was open!) as it's so inconspicuous. But luckily by the time Glitterbitch turned up they were all sitting happily polishing off a jug of Sangria.
And excellent sangria it is too. (We've mentioned previously our misunderstanding about this.) So we were indeed quite tipsy by the time we ordered. But we were too busy nibbling on free tortilla to notice. We ordered about two bit of tapas each and there was very little we didn't like. Glitterbitch hates artichoke, but even that tasted OK. Glitterbitch found herself fighting over parma ham as it was so yummy. She could have just eaten that if they'd have kept on bringing it out.
There's something so friendly about Rebato's. You don't have to rush because there's a queue of people milling about. People just mill about at the bar. It's easy in here. It feels like your having dinner in someone's house. But that someone is a much better cook than you are.
You'll leave happy, full and relaxed. Considering Glitterbitch was tired and hungry and a bit grumpy when she arrived, she's thinking of moving next door.
Rebatos is on South Lambeth Road near Stockwell station. It cost about £100 for five with drinks and (really lovely) dessert We promise we're over our tapas craving now. Even though some people reckon it's the next big (or rather, little) thing for 2008. We'll bring you different culinary delights next time. Except sushi. We'll never bring you sushi.
